Eagle County, Colorado, (pop. approx. 53,000), is located on the western slope of the Rockies, approximately 100 miles west of Denver. It was named after the Eagle River, which runs through the county, and the county seat is the Town of Eagle. The county is surrounded by the White River National Forest, and is home to the world-renowned resorts of Vail and Beaver Creek. Tourism and real estate drive the economy, and the snow sports industry is a crucial component of the region’s vitality. Many other outdoor recreational opportunities abound in the area, including hiking, biking and horseback riding, rafting, fishing and kayaking on the area’s many rivers and streams, and the region is also home to several premier golf courses.

Eagle County is a full-service county with more than 30 departments, 472 full-time equivalent employees, and has a 2017 operating budget of $114 million. The county is led by a three member full-time Board of Commissioners elected on a partisan basis to staggered four-year terms. Appointed by, and serving at the pleasure of the Board of Commissioners, the County Manager is responsible for implementation of board policies and priorities. The position also acts as the county’s budget officer, and provides day-to-day management of the organization, including oversight of all employment matters, plus the appointment, removal, and supervision of all non-elected department heads. The County Manager also works with the elected department heads and their staff to ensure compliance with general county administrative policies.

A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration or a related field from an accredited college or university is required, with a master's degree in a related field preferred. A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible leadership and management experience is required. Prior experience in county government is desirable. Generalist leadership experience in a similar agency and a thorough understanding and appreciation of governmental finance, budgeting, the dynamics of collaborating with a full-time board, and county operations is required.
