Help Shape the Financial Future of a Mountain Community
The Town of Nederland is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and strategic finance professional to serve as its next Town Treasurer.

As the Town’s senior finance officer and controller, the Town Treasurer plays a key leadership role in maintaining the Town’s financial health while supporting the Board of Trustees, Town Manager, department directors, and the community through transparent, responsible financial stewardship.

About the Position
Reporting directly to the Town Manager, the Town Treasurer serves on the executive leadership team and oversees the Town’s financial operations, including:

  • Annual budget development and administration
  • Financial reporting and fund accounting
  • Cash management and investments
  • Accounts payable and receivable
  • Payroll coordination and benefits administration support
  • Audit coordination and internal controls
  • Grant and capital project financial tracking
  • Long-range financial planning
  • Purchasing and procurement oversight
  • Financial reporting for the Board of Trustees

The Treasurer also collaborates with department heads, auditors, consultants, and the Nederland Downtown Development Authority (NDDA) to ensure strong financial management and compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.

What You’ll Bring
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who combines strong technical accounting skills with excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, budgeting, finance, public administration, or a related field
  • Experience with:Governmental accounting
  • Budget preparation and administration
  • Financial reporting
  • Audit coordination
  • Internal controls
  • Financial analysis
  • Supervisory, project management, or cross-department coordination experience
  • Advanced spreadsheet and Excel skills
  • Ability to be bonded
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Municipal or governmental finance experience
  • Fund accounting experience
  • Enterprise fund or utility finance experience
  • Grant and capital project accounting
  • Experience with governmental financial software
  • CPA, CPFO, CGFM, CMFO, or similar professional certification
  • Graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
