The Position

The City of Yuma is seeking an experienced Finance Director to join a dynamic, financially stable organization! This position plans, directs, and manages all of the City’s financial operations.  The Finance Director is responsible for budget development, financial analysis, reporting, and revenue forecasting. This position reports directly to the City Administrator and advises City leadership on all financial matters.

The City’s next Finance Director is a seasoned financial professional with a proven track record of success leading a comprehensive municipal finance department. This individual is a strong communicator who can explain complicated financial issues in an easy to understand manner.  The Director is a team player and relationship builder who is comfortable interacting with staff, City leadership, and the community.

The Director prepares and develops budgets and financial reports as well as conducts financial analysis. The ideal candidate coordinates audits, monitors fiscal performance, and oversees the City’s banking, investment, and debt management activities. This individual is familiar with priority-based budgeting practices, fund accounting, special revenue and enterprise funds.

The successful candidate exercises sound judgement and demonstrates a high level of integrity and ethics. This individual is analytical, organized, and detail oriented. The Director develops and implements internal policies, procedures, and standards under the guidelines of GASB and GFOA while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. 

Education and Experience

The minimum qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, accounting, finance, or a closely related field and at least six years of supervision/management experience in a local government financial setting. A demonstrated understanding of municipal finance, fund accounting, special revenue funds, enterprise funds, as well as government accounting standards (GASB) is also required. 

Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, Certified Public Financial Officer (CPFO) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.

Compensation

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $110,000 – $142,000 depending on qualifications with a robust benefits package.
