Small mountain resort town about 5 hours southwest of Denver.

The Town of Mt. Crested Butte, Colorado is seeking a Community Development Director to lead the organization, direction, and coordination of the Community Development Department. This role oversees key functions including building, zoning, planning, and capital projects, and provides leadership to a team of technical and professional staff.

The Director performs a wide range of supervisory, administrative, technical, and professional duties related to the development and implementation of land use policies, as well as short- and long-range planning initiatives. This position plays a critical role in shaping the Town’s growth and ensuring thoughtful, effective development.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative and organized professional with a strong background in development planning and partnerships. As part of a small, nimble team, this individual will be expected to wear multiple hats, contribute to special projects, and work closely across departments. Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships are essential for success in this role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in land use planning, urban planning, public administration, landscape architecture, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in municipal or rural planning.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if it demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Membership in the American Planning Association (APA) and AICP certification, or a clear timeline for obtaining certification.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
