Home to over 33,000 residents, Pueblo West is in Pueblo County along the southern edge of Colorado’s major growth corridor and approximately 7 miles west of the City of Pueblo. Still considered a small town in many ways, Pueblo West is the fastest growing community in Southern Colorado. This area provides a vast array of outdoor recreation activities with access to a variety of metropolitan services. Governed by an elected five-member Board of Directors, District services include fire and emergency services, streets and roads, parks and recreation, water and wastewater services, committee of architecture, economic development, and administrative services.

Pueblo West Metropolitan District is seeking a visionary and charismatic District Manager with the ability to exert strong leadership while inspiring a culture of collaboration. Candidates with a desire to engage the community and establish longevity in the role will be most successful. Responsible for an overall budget of $64 million, two direct reports and an overall staff of 163, the District Manager oversees all operations and services of Pueblo West departments. With an emphasis on developing effective relationships with the board of directors, staff, and other governmental and non-governmental entities, the ideal candidate will set a strategic vision for Pueblo West while working to enhance services.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field and 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible and complex experience in management (government, business, or military included), at least 2 years of which were in supervisory positions, and at least one (1) of which is at the executive level. Ability to obtain a valid Colorado driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record within 30 days of hire is also required. Pueblo West residency within, or proximity to in the distance set of 50 miles from the principal offices, within 180 days of hire is required. A master’s degree is preferred, as is knowledge of and experience with the unique water rights affecting the Arkansas River from the headwaters to the Kansas State line, including trans-basin water.
